A New Chapter For BUCHANS
After months of planning, designing products and building the website, we've finally moved into our first workshop.
Until now, I was working off my desk in the family living room. Products have been measured, prototypes have been tested and a lot of time has gone into planning what BUCHANS should become before we have sold a single product.
Having a dedicated workshop is a big step forward and gives us somewhere to properly develop products, organise stock and continue planning the business.
Starting With An Empty Room
Moving into a workshop is exciting, but it quickly reminds you just how much work goes into setting one up.
The first day was mostly spent carrying furniture upstairs, putting racking together and working out where everything should go. It didn't look like much, but this is exactly what brought the workshop one step closer to being functional.
Rather than rushing to get everything finished, we're taking our time and building the workshop properly from the start.

Building A Workshop Around The Work
From day one, the plan has been to give every part of the business its own space.
The shelving will hold stock and packaging materials, making picking and packing much easier.
There'll also be a dedicated packing bench, an engineering workbench for designing and developing new products, and a separate desk for CAD work and 3D printing.
The workshop is still far from finished, but it's already starting to take shape.

More Than Just Storage
The workshop isn't just somewhere to store products.
It's where new ideas will be designed, tested and developed before they ever make it onto the website.
Over the coming months we'll be carrying out workshop experiments, testing different products and materials, and sharing what we learn through articles and videos.
Some of those tests will help us improve the products we sell, while others are simply things we've always wanted to find out for ourselves.

What Happens Next?
There's still plenty left to do.
The workbenches need finishing, more tools need to arrive and everything still needs organising before the workshop is fully operational.
Once that's done, the focus will be on expanding the product range, continuing development of the Stealth Induction system and creating more technical guides and workshop content.
Starting a business from scratch isn't something that happens overnight, and we're looking forward to sharing both the successes and the challenges as BUCHANS continues to grow.
We're only just getting started.
